Following the recent ‘Good’ rating by Ofsted, Great Yarmouth Academy has cause to celebrate again as its students collect their GCSE results today.

Students achieved 58% of grades 9-4 in English and maths – a 6% increase on last year (2023: 52% of English and maths grades were 9-4); 35% of grades were 9-5*.

Dean Rosembert, Principal at the academy said:

“We’re incredibly proud of our students for their hard work as well as the whole school community who are committed to providing a nurturing environment full of opportunities. Many of our Year 11s will be continuing their studies at Sir Isaac Newton and Jane Austen Sixth Form and we’d like to wish them all the very best for their bright futures ahead.”

Great Yarmouth Charter Academy is a school built on kindness, respect and participation and has been oversubscribed since its opening as the town’s only Free School.

Ofsted’s recent visit in June, recognises that the school is “an important part of the community in every sense”, through strong leadership and a rich and varied curriculum designed to make sure students have opportunity to study their interests and develop their strengths. It’s little wonder this year’s results built on the success of 2023, with an increase of the number of students achieving pass grades in English and maths combined by more than 7% on last year.

Pupils excelled at an impressive range of subjects, with more than 80% of pupils achieving strong passes especially in child development, modern foreign languages, further mathematics, separate sciences and statistics.

Gabriela, who achieved nine grades including 8 & 9, secured her place at Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form in September said:

“I’m looking forward to studying chemistry, biology and maths A-Level to pursue a career in biological chemistry.”

Lucas, who achieved 8s and 9s in every EBacc subject said:

“This has exceeded every expectation - I've raised the bar really high to get into university and this has rocketed my opportunity to study Law by taking philosophy, history, geography and English Literature. I’m looking to study at either Gresham's School or Sir Isaac Newton Sixth Form and really value the opportunity to study with the very best in the country”

Head pupil, George, also achieved 8s and 9s across maths and science and has secured his place at East Norfolk Sixth Form in September to study maths, biology, chemistry and further maths.

George said: “I’m unsure what I want to do at university, but this has given me time to think about all the opportunities that were given to me. Being Head pupil gave me more experience to think further about other avenues I hadn’t considered before."
