Parents, Young People, and Teachers Collaborate to Enhance Writing Skills at GY Charter Academy
BackIn an October evening, parents, children, and teachers gathered at the academy for an "English Excellence Evening" aimed at enhancing the quality of pupils' writing and outcomes in English.
The event focused on expanding vocabulary, improving sentence structure, and fostering the fluidity of concepts and ideas in writing to encourage independent thought. Parents expressed their reassurance about their knowledge of the curriculum and were eager to support their children's development as writers. They found the collaborative atmosphere with teachers and other parents to be both informative and reassuring. The children were delighted to see their teachers and parents come together to support their learning. Their enthusiasm was evident as they engaged in various activities focused on poetry, story-making, and enhancing their writing skills. Witnessing the collaboration between their teachers, parents, and peers brought a sense of joy and motivation to the students.
Nicole Gowing, Head of English and the event organiser, said,
"By collaborating with families, we aim to engage young authors and inspire pupils to read more widely, fostering a love for literature and a lifelong passion for writing. We'll see this event as a regular feature this year"
Teachers were pleased to see the joy on the pupils' faces as they worked on their writing skills alongside their peers and the broader community. They emphasised the importance of fostering confidence and fluidity in writing and were encouraged by the active involvement of parents in supporting their children's development as writers. The "English Excellence Evening" was a resounding success, fostering a collaborative environment that will undoubtedly support the young writers in their ongoing journey towards excellence in English.
