Great Yarmouth Charter Academy is thrilled to announce an upcoming event that celebrates artistry and community engagement within plans to renovate the Winter Gardens along the sea front.

A talented guest artist visited the academy to work with students on a special Portrait Photography Workshop, as part of an initiative linked to renovating of the historic Great Yarmouth Winter Gardens in collaboration with Out There Arts.

The workshop, facilitated by artist Debby Besford, aimed to empower students to explore their creative potential. Participants had the unique opportunity to capture their own portraits and engage in a dynamic Rotoscoping activity, blending photography and animation techniques. This hands-on experience not only enhanced their artistic skills but also allowed them to contribute personal flair to the upcoming portrait gallery, which will showcase the students' artworks in the beautifully renovated Winter Gardens.

“This collaboration is a fantastic opportunity for our students to engage with professional artists and see their work displayed in a significant local venue,” said Anna, organiser on behalf of Out There Arts. “We’re looking forward to a day full of creativity and inspiration.”

Once completed, the portrait gallery will serve as a visual celebration of the talent at Great Yarmouth Charter Academy and an integral part of the Winter Gardens revitalisation. The school community is eager to witness the creativity that will unfold during the opening of the public space.

The project, called Winter Gardens Illuminate!, aims to fully restore and repurpose The Winter Gardens as a sustainable seaside attraction - beckoning a golden era of the Great Yarmouth Seaside. Out There Arts is working with local schools, community groups, Freshly Greated, Time and Tide Museum of Great Yarmouth Life and Great Yarmouth Borough Council.

Stay tuned as students transform their artistic visions into reality and contribute to the vibrant cultural landscape of Great Yarmouth!
