Great Yarmouth Charter Academy recently welcomed the renowned theatre performance group, Smashed Live!, to deliver an impactful session to Year 7 and 8 students. The performance, which focused on the dangers of alcohol and substance misuse, captivated the young audience and provided a powerful learning experience.

Smashed Live! is known for its engaging and relatable approach to educating young people about the risks associated with underage drinking. The performance depicted the lives of three friends who face serious consequences due to their misuse of alcohol. Through interactive storytelling, students were invited to respond to dilemmas and explore alternative outcomes, making the session both exciting and thought-provoking.

The event was part of Charter Academy's Personal, Social, Health and Economic (PSHE) curriculum, which aims to equip students with the knowledge and skills to make safe and informed decisions. Alice Gray, the lead for PSHE at Charter Academy, emphasised the importance of such initiatives:

"Keeping our young people safe from risks in their local community, including substance misuse and alcohol-related incidents, is a top priority. Smashed Live! provides a unique and engaging way to address these critical issues."

Students were also given the opportunity to ask questions and engage in discussions with the performers, further enhancing their understanding of the topic. One Year 8 pupil shared their thoughts on the experience:

"The performance was really eye-opening. It made me think about the choices I make and how they can affect my future."

Parents are encouraged to visit the Charter Academy website for more details on the PSHE curriculum and other initiatives aimed at promoting the well-being of students. The academy remains committed to providing a safe and supportive environment for all its pupils.
