Our Gardening Club Growing a Sustainable Future
BackA local gardening club that meets once a fortnight has made great strides in building the start of a journey to create a sustainable source of vegetables and herbs for cookery classes and local families.
The club's coordinator, Anne Severino, said,
"Today, the group has established raised beds and cleaned up the school's quad next to reception, which will eventually result in abundant fresh produce. It's fantastic to see we have dozens of pupils who want to take action to see the school transform its green spaces into sustainable eco spaces."
Year 7 pupil, Chloe, a member of the club, said,
"I really enjoyed helping to make the raised beds and seeing the garden's transformation. It's great to know that the vegetables and herbs we grow will be used to benefit the wider community."
The club is open to all school community members interested in learning about sustainable gardening practices. They meet each fortnight on a Friday afternoon. They hope to continue expanding their efforts and positively impacting the local area by opening more parts of the school including a greenhouse and vegetable plot.
