Considering Different Pathways at Virtual Admissions Conference
BackA group of year 11 pupils at Great Yarmouth Charter Academy have been working alongside the admissions team at Gonville & Caius College to consider the range of pathways and A-levels that can support successful applications to Russell Group universities. The students have been offered an opportunity to learn about the various courses and the subjects that are important to study for gaining admission to top universities like Cambridge.
One student, who currently studies Triple Science, Geography, History and Further Maths at GCSE, spoke about their experience learning about the importance of studying facilitating subjects. "I never realised the impact that studying facilitating subjects could have on my chances of getting into a top university like Cambridge. It was really eye-opening to learn about the different pathways and A-levels that can lead to success in higher education. I am now considering studying history and classics, which was not something I had considered before."
Alumni from Inspiration Trust schools, Hethersett Academy and Sir Isaac Newton where also available to take questions from our students such as, “Does it matter what size of sixth form I attend, or the number of subjects?” as well as questions relating to specialising in Law, Medicine and Politics.
The programme has been praised by teachers and parents alike for giving students valuable insight into the world of higher education and the steps they need to take to achieve their goals.
Gonville & Caius College Admissions tutor, Dr Chris Scott said, “We hope to continue working with students as part of their OutReach programme to help them achieve their full potential and reach their academic goals, particularly those from areas which are sometimes harder to reach, such as Norfolk and Waveney”
