Great Yarmouth Charter Academy hosts Halloween Spooky Spectacular Textiles event
BackThe Textiles department at GYCA has teamed up with pupils to create an exciting Halloween Spooky Spectacular event on Halloween night. This year, they're designing and making witches hats that are sure to send shivers down your spine.
The process of making a witches hat requires a lot of skill and attention to detail. The first step is to choose the fabric that will be used to make the hat. The fabric must be sturdy enough to hold its shape while also being lightweight and comfortable to wear. Once the fabric has been selected, it's time to start cutting and stitching.
The hat consists of two main parts: the brim and the cone-shaped top. To create the brim, the fabric is cut into a circle and then folded in half. The edges are then stitched together using a sewing machine. Once the brim is complete, it's time to move on to the cone-shaped top.
To create the cone, the fabric is cut into a triangle shape and then folded in half with the right sides facing each other. The edges are then stitched together, leaving the top open. The cone is then turned right-side out and stuffed with batting to give it a full shape.
Next, the brim is attached to the cone by stitching the two pieces together. The final step is to add any embellishments, such as a ribbon or a spider web design, to give the hat that extra spooky touch.
Lauren Brunt, the event coordinator and textiles teacher said:
“Working with the pupils on this project has been a fun and educational experience for everyone involved. The students have learnt valuable sewing skills and have been able to express their creativity through the design of the hats. The end result is a collection of witches hats that are not only spooky but also beautifully crafted.”
Stacie Baxter, the co-cordinator who gave the inspiration for the event said:
“I am absolutely thrilled with the amazing witches hats that the Textiles department and the pupils have created for our Halloween Spooky Spectacular event. The attention to detail and creativity that went into each hat is incredible. It's amazing to see how the hats came to life and were used for trick or treating later that evening. The event was a huge success thanks to the hard work and dedication of everyone involved."
