Vattenfall UK, a leading energy supplier, has joined with Great Yarmouth Charter Academy to harness the talent and aspirations of the town’s young people to achieve a fossil-free future.

The company is working with the academy to hold a series of talks, workshops, work experience placements and visits to the North Norfolk site as they recognise that the next generation is instrumental in driving change and implementing sustainable solutions.

Sean Powell, Senior Vice Principal, is proud to be able to support this initiative with Vattenfall UK as it actively engages young people through various initiatives and programs through the year to encourage them to use fossil-free fuel in the next generation. He explains,

“Vattenfall UK perfectly aligns with our personal development programme, delivering on social enterprise, work-related learning, social action, and change within the climate and community. We are thrilled to be a part of this partnership, which will not only benefit our students but also contribute to the creation of a sustainable and fossil-free future within the region."

One such initiative is the Vattenfall Young Energy Professionals program, which provides young people with the opportunity to learn and develop their skills in the energy sector. The program equips young people with the knowledge and expertise they need to develop innovative solutions that can help to reduce carbon emissions and create a more sustainable future. This week, Year 11 pupils were invited to a talk from an ambassador of the programme who explained how off shore wind projects are one of the ways to effect change in the local environment by creating Norfolk “Wind Zones”.

Community Liaison Officer for Vattenfall and key note speaker, Will Sealey said,

"I am thrilled to be visiting Charter Academy and to see such enthusiasm among the students for the future of renewable energy. We are excited to work with the school to help secure work experience and employment for the town in the future. One way pupils can get involved is by applying for our Young Energy Professionals program, which can help them develop the skills and knowledge they need to become future leaders in the energy sector."

Vattenfall UK is committed to working with young people to create a sustainable future for all. By investing in young talent and engaging with educational institutions, the company is paving the way for a future that is powered by renewable energy and free of fossil fuels.
