Pupils at Great Yarmouth Charter Academy celebrated World Book Day in style this year with a range of exciting activities and events. The day kicked off with a series of library events and form time in which pupils were encouraged to share their favourite books and discuss the importance of reading.

Throughout the day, KS3 students took part in a 'story in a day' project where they followed an exciting plot twist from Roald Dahl's 'Lamb to Slaughter' and had to become quizzical about the next chapters with the help of their teachers who read to them extracts throughout the day in all lessons. The 'Blind Date with a Book' event was also a huge success. Students had the opportunity to select a mystery book wrapped in plain paper, encouraging them to try something new and expand their reading horizons. Teachers shared their favourite books and authors and enjoyed participating in the event as the turns and twists of the popular children's story unravelled across the day.

In the library, there was a sign designing competition which saw young people let their creative juices flow. The designs were all impressive and the winning entry will be displayed in the library for everyone to see.

In addition to these activities, the school also welcomes a guest author,  Ashley Hickson-Lovence who will return to the school to share his writing journey and tips on how to become a better writer. The author has already met with a number of pupils to give an exclusive reading of their latest book which was well received by all.

The school's English department was thrilled with the day's success, and hopes that it will inspire students to read more, both for pleasure and love for literature.

Alex Baldry, Assistant Principal, who oversaw the days activities said,

"We are delighted with how the day turned out. It was great to see so many students engaged in reading and writing activities. It is important to promote reading and writing for pleasure, and we hope that World Book Day has inspired our students to do just that."

Overall, it was a fun-filled day celebrating the joy of reading and writing, and the Great Yarmouth Charter Academy hopes to make it an even bigger event next year.
